Maybe you remember, maybe you don’t, but Timothy has been going through the first phase of his braces for the past 22 months. (If you need a refresher, I detailed it in this blog post.)
Well, in late October, his orthodontist said the time had come. Phase 1 was officially complete and the braces could come off. And early on Wednesday, Oct. 24, he went from this,
to being braces free.
He has a semi-permanent retainer (it looks like a metal bar that is behind his front teeth) and a spacer (he had a couple of baby molars removed to make room for his 12-year-molars), although they are fairly unobtrusive. He likes the low-profile spacer much better than his widener. He also had to relearn how to talk again, since he suddenly has more space in his mouth.
Unfortunately, this is just the first part of his braces experience. In a couple of years (after the rest of his permanent teeth have come in), he will need them again to finish the job; but for now, Phase 1 is officially complete. Yay!
Good to have phase 1 complete. Enjoy the reprieve Timothy.
