Here is a report from Mom after a phone conversation with Joanna following a doctor's visit last Friday.
Joanna went to her neuro-opthamologist on Friday for a post-op exam. Tests showed that her visul acuity had improved. Her field of vision was vastly improved but the field she has is C shaped and insufficient for her brain to put the two images together. Her 3D vision is nonexistent. Her color vision is greatly improved. The right eye nerve is still pale. The left eye nerve is looking fairly good.
Joanna and Joseph asked if Brigham City Hospital should have caught the clot. The doctor responded that it would have been nice if they had but that it really is specialized and not surprising they missed. The BC hospital probably sees only one case in 20 years. At the Moran Eye Clinic they will see only 2 or 3 cases a year.
They also asked at what point do they give up hope of recovering any more eyesight. The answer was six months.
Joanna had felt a bit off balance Thursday and Friday and was told to watch that carefully. (By Sunday that had improved.) A stroke is still a possibility and they need to be alert for any symptoms. If they notice anything funny they should call the emergency room on their way in.
A "letter of necessity" was needed by the insurance company to authorize a 30 day supply of the Lovenox rather than the 6 day supply per refill that they were allowing. The doctor got on that right away and the insurance company should authorize the month supply sometime this week.
She is to go back to the neuro-opthamologist in two weeks.
